Jump on the bus to Hartford celebration!

 by Marlene Gasdia-Cochrane

April/May 2006

“By now you’ve probably heard that the United Church of Christ is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in Hartford, Connecticut, in June, and that the Massachusetts Conference is holding its 208th Annual Meeting in conjunction with that celebration,” said Susan P. Dickerman, Associate Conference Minister for Leadership Development.  “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and the time to sign up is now!”

The Annual Meeting will be held Friday, June 22, 2007, from 8:00 AM to 1:45 PM at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell, CT. This meeting is designed primarily for church delegates and clergy. It will include several business items, including a report on the Listening Process and Conference Minister & President Jim Antal’s report.

The 26th General Synod will kick off later in the day on Friday, but the big day for the gala anniversary celebration will be Saturday, June 23, 2007, when Synod in the City takes place at various venues in downtown Hartford. The festivities will kick off at 8:30 AM at the Civic Center with worship and a keynote speech by Bill Moyers. They will continue all day long with speakers, theologians, artists, performers and multimedia events held throughout downtown Hartford, and will end with a closing celebration at 7:30 PM. Family and friends are welcomed, but must be registered for the Synod to attend any of these events.

Those who plan to spend both days in Hartford will find plenty to do after Annual Meeting adjourns on Friday, and will be able to catch a shuttle to see the exhibits and marketplace at the Hartford Civic Center in the afternoon and attend worship on Friday evening.
