The Revs. Gary Blume (First Church in Weymouth) and James Tilbe (First Congregational Church in Raynham) have volunteered and have been appointed by the Board of Directors as Disaster Response Coordinators for the Conference. Both are Fire Department chaplains with extensive training and experience in disaster response.
According to Dawn Hammond, Associate Conference Minister for Policy and Finance, the coordinators will recruit members for a Conference-wide Disaster Response Team; convene periodic meetings of the Disaster Response Team for purposes of organization, training and community-building; offer training to Conference clergy to prepare them to minister more effectively in times of disaster; and assist, when invited, with response to disasters which occur in communities within the Massachusetts Conference.
“The Conference is blessed by the interest, skill and initiative of these two pastors,” says Hammond.
Currently the Coordinators are seeking members who have training and backgrounds appropriate for disaster response service, such as training in pastoral crisis intervention, grief counseling, critical incident stress management, or Red Cross disaster training. If you have appropriate training and are interested in participating on the Disaster Response Team, please contact Gary (FCGary1@aol.com) or Jim (jtilbe@tmlponline.net).
