According to Joanna P. Bickford, MACUCC Associate for Administration (staff to the Search Committee) in their first three meetings, the members of the Search Committee spent time building community and learning about the search process for a new Minister & President for the Mass.Conference. Lorin Cope, a staff member from the national United Church of Christ was present to provide information and resources.
“The committee has begun gathering input from the wider community, in order to honor their vision of strengthening covenant among all participants in the life of the Conference,” explains Bickford. Search committee members met with former Minister and President Nancy Taylor, present Interim Minister and President Steve Sterner, all current executive staff members and interested administrative staff and asked them to discuss the questions with others in the congregation, in order to invite broader input.”
The Search Committee also met
with the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors in order to clarify
some aspects of the position profile.
The Executive Committee
affirmed the mission of the Conference– to nurture local church vitality and
the covenant among our churches –
and decided that the job description for
the new Minister and President will
include: “The Minister and President
will continue our efforts to refine the
work of our Conference, its structure
and staff around this statement of mission,
within the confines of our budget.”
Steve Sterner, the Interim Minister and President, and the Board will take some incremental steps during the interim time toward the goal of aligning Conference resources around the Vision for Renewal and Growth. However, the next Minister and President will be pivotal in this realignment.
As of press date, the committee has begun work on a profile of the Conference to be provided to potential candidates, with the intention of presenting this document to the Board of Directors in September.
