The sexton of Wellesley Village Church shares responsibility with another sexton for cleaning and maintaining the building and minor grounds work. Including maintenance work, custodial work, grounds, and set-up and break-down for activities held in the church. In addition, the sexton must maintain the security of the building. This is an on-call designated position that reports in the event of emergencies (alarms, weather, etc.) The sexton is part of the church team and shall keep in close communication with other members of staff, church members, visitors, delivery and service people.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to read, write and understand English.
Must maintain a clean and neat appearance.
Must be able to lift and transport 50 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects. Work involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting/turning and reaching; bending at the waist. Indoor/outdoor work environment with exposure to weather (shoveling snow).
This is a benefit eligible, part-time, 25-hour, weekday evening (Monday-Thursday, 4:30p-9:30p, start time is flexible) and Sunday morning (7a-1p) position, holidays included. The Sexton is expected to be available for wedding and funeral services and other special events as part of the church’s normal prescribed duties for this position. An honorarium will be provided for wedding and funeral work as appropriate. Salary $17-$19 per hour depending on experience. New hire must pass a CORI/SORI background check. This position is part of the ministry of the church. Candidate must be supportive of the theology, spirit, ethic and style of this church.
