James Yee, former U.S.Army Captain and graduate of West Point, served as the Muslim Chaplain at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he was assigned to minister to Army personnel and to the
detainees. In September 2003, Captain Yee was arrested and held in solitary confinement for 76 days, while being falsely accused of spying, espionage, and aiding alleged Taliban and Al-Qaeda prisoners. After months of government investigation, all criminal charges were dropped, his record wiped clean, and Chaplain Yee was reinstated to duty at Fort Lewis, WA. He was honorably discharged in 2005. James Yee lectures about his harrowing ordeal, Guantanamo, Islam, and the challenges of protecting both national security and civil liberties.
