UCC Has Big Showing at Boston Pride

The MACUCC contingent marches past Old South Church. |
A drenched but spirited group of UCC marchers celebrated at Boston Gay Pride and brought the message of welcome to receptive crowds on June 10. The MA Conference ONA Task Force sponsored a float bearing three banners, one being the Massachusetts Conference God is still speaking, banner. The others read: The United Church of Christ – Welcome Home and The United Church of Christ – Doing Justice Affirming Love. Many in the group commented that the crowds were the most excited and receptive they had seen, some speculating that people were perhaps becoming acquainted with the UCC through the God is still speaking ads. Churches represented in the Massachusetts Conference group included Hope Church in Jamaica Plain, First Church (Somerville), the Congregational Church of Needham, Second Congregational Church in Winchester, Park Avenue Congregational Church in Arlington, and Church of the Covenant in Boston. Old South Church in Boston and United Parish of Auburndale each brought additional marching groups or floats. Old South hosted the traditional Pride Interfaith Service to begin Pride Day.
