Upcoming Mission Trips

The Worcester Area Mission Society, UCC, is sponsoring work trips to New Orleans in cooperation with the Massachusetts Conference. To learn more about upcoming trips, visit the WAMS website, or call Rev. Shantia Wright-Gray (information in the box at right).

Age: Construction participants must be 16 years of age or older. Youth traveling with an adult to work with landscaping or the Road Show could be somewhat younger. To date we have meaningfully included folks from ages 16 to 81!

Cost: $1,200 includes airfare, room, board, vehicle rentals & fuel, missionary accident insurance, leadership/organization, $200 for materials. (If the cost of airfare exceeds $500 per person, the cost of the trip would increase).

Housing: Teams stay at Good Shepherd, UCC in Metairie, LA, in bunk beds, cots or air mattresses, and prepare their own meals.

Work
Construction teams should have at least two skilled persons, the more the better (carpenters, contractors, etc.) and lots of willing hands - skilled or unskilled. Construction work is done on homes in New Orleans and homes in the suburbs.

Educational teams include certified teachers (past or present certification) who help in a classroom, and educators/dramatists/musicians to do a performance from curriculum related material, followed by learning centers based on the theme (math, geography, writing, "wondering"...)

Many hands and hearts are needed

In addition to construction workers and educators, there is a tremendous need for many other special talents such as: nurses, landscapers and gardeners, therapists, massage therapists/body workers, and social workers.
