Pastoral Excellence Program

This Odd & Wondrous Calling

This Odd and Wondrous Calling

A Retreat at Craigville Conference Center on Cape Cod

for New Clergy, Newly Seasoned Clergy (3-5 years), and Graduating Seminarians

June 5 and 6, 2008

with Martin Copenhaver, Lillian Daniel, and Chris Braudaway-Bauman

Drawing on some of the themes from their forthcoming book, This Odd and Wondrous Calling, Martin Copenhaver and Lillian Daniel will offer an opportunity for us to explore together what makes pastoral ministry such an extraordinary vocation.  With Chris Braudaway-Bauman, we will also reflect on what Lillian’s and Martin’s reflections mean in each of our lives. This renewal retreat will include time for small group conversations, leisurely meals, and (weather permitting) an afternoon walk on the beach.  Our time together will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5 and conclude on Friday, June 6 at 3:00 p.m.

The facilitators:  Lillian Daniel is the Senior Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and the author of Tell It Like It Is: Reclaiming the Practice of Testimony. Martin Copenhaver is the Senior Pastor of the Wellesley Congregational Church, Wellesley, MA, and the author of several books including To Begin at the Beginning: An Introduction to the Christian Faith. Chris Braudaway-Bauman serves as a member of the Pastoral Excellence Program Team for the Massachusetts Conference, working particularly with new pastors in the first few years of ministry.  She is an Associate Pastor at Wellesley Congregational Church, Wellesley, MA.

The fee for the retreat, $120, covers the cost of four meals, an overnight stay, linens and towels.  All other costs are covered by grants from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., the Louisville Institute, and Our Church’s Wider Mission.

*Please RSVP no later than February 15, 2008. The full fee is due no later than April 15, 2008.
