United Church of Christ is pleased to offer a one-day seminar on Church Finances, covering areas of Church as Employer, Financial Reporting, Investing church funds and Endowment Policies, presented by experts in their respective fields.

Marc O'BrienMarc O’Brien - Investing Church Funds
Marc O'Brien is President and Chief Investment Officer of O'Brien Management. Prior to founding OBM, Marc held various positions at Lehman Brothers, Inc. and served on the faculty of Harvard Business School. He has held leadership positions in many organizations within the Cambridge community including the Cambridge Rotary Club, the Cambridge YMCA, the American Association of Individual
Investors for which he led the local mutual fund special interest group, and First Church in Cambridge. Marc and O’Brien Management act as investment manager for four U.C.C. churches.
Al EatonAl Eaton - Church as Employer

Forrest “Al” Eaton is one of three partners in Sanders, Walsh and Eaton, LLP, a Certified Public Accounting
firm on Cape Cod and principal of Faith Financial, LLC. Al served as treasurer at his home UCC church in Harwich Port
for 17 years. He has led the “Church Treasurer’s Workshop” for the MACUCC. He has conducted church and clergy tax seminars throughout Massachusetts for Christian Ministry Resources, one of the nation’s leading resources for tax and legal information specifically related to the religious community. He regularly consults with ministers, churches and church treasurers regarding compensation, tax, audit and accounting issues.

Karen McArthurKaren McArthur - Financial Reporting

Since 1996, Rev. Karen McArthur has specialized in financial management for churches and faith communities, integrating her skills and study in math, economics, and theology. Following her education at Wellesley College and Harvard Divinity School, she was ordained by the United Church of Christ in 1987 and has provided pastoral leadership for five New England congregations, in both settled and interim positions. She currently serves as Affiliate Minister of Stewardship and Finance at First Church in Cambridge. In addition, over the past thirty years, she has served as Treasurer of eight non-profit organizations.

Rufus Cushman—Writing Endowment Policies

Rufus CushmanRufus Cushman has played a key role in the development of both the United Church of Christ and the Massachusetts Conference Financial Development Ministries. A retired bank trust officer and a faithful Christian, his expertise in the field of church endowments is unmatched. His Endowment Policy Checklist is still in wide use. After years of service to the national and Massachusetts Conference settings, Rufus is now helping the Vermont Conference broaden and deepen its stewardship ministry.
