Mission and Justice teams are ready to help your congregation

[reprinted from the Common Cloth newsletter]

February/March 2007

The Mission and Justice Commission of the Massachusetts Conference oversees several Task Forces that assist congregations with specific mission work. If your congregation needs help, please contact one our Task Forces and they will be glad to offer resources, coaching and training.

Environmental Ministries

The Environmental Ministries group has a variety of resources available to help your congregation to make a difference in the environment.  The group also oversees the Mass ReLeaf program, which helps congregations plant trees in blighted urban areas. For general information contact Elizabeth England at elizabeth_england@harvard.edu; for Mass ReLeaf contact Neal Seaborn at eseaborn@comcast.net.

Race and Justice

The Race and Justice Task Force works with congregations in beginning discussions on racism as well as trains members on the dynamics of racism. Contact Karen Case at revdrkarin@aol.com or Ellie Crawford at elorchid@yahoo.com.

Homelessness

The Homelessness Task Force works closely with the One Family Campaign, and the Mass. Coalition for the Homeless to provide churches with resources to do both hands on local work and  to engage in systemic change. Contact Fran Bogle at fbog@aol.com.

Open and Affirming

If your congregation would like to begin an ONA process (we now have 68 ONA congregations in Massachusetts) or lead a discussion on same-gender marriage, contact Kathie Carpenter at kacarp@comcast.net.

Mission Partnership

This Mission Partnership task force oversees the Conference’s primary mission relationships with the Pentecostal Church of Chile and the United Congregational Churches of South Africa, as well as encourages churches to have other local and worldwide partnerships. For information contact MaryLu Esposito at marylu@cereal.mv.com.
