The Annual Meeting Planning Committee has recommended to the Board of Directors that the 2007 Annual Meeting be held on the evening of Thursday, June 21 and the morning of Friday, June 22, in Hartford, Connecticut, in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the 26th General Synod of the United Church of Christ.
The Executive Committee will recommend this plan to the full Board on September 16th – past deadline for this newspaper. If approved, the Annual Meeting will include condensed business and a worship service. Instead of Massachusetts Conference-specific workshops and programs, delegates would have the opportunity to participate in the myriad of worship and program opportunities presented as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
“The wider UCC is inviting us to a huge festival in our own back yard in June 2007,” said Dawn Hammond, Associate Conference Minister for Policy & Finance. “The Committee decided that, rather than staging our customary Annual Meeting in South Hadley just a few weeks earlier, the Conference should take full advantage of this opportunity. It will be an extraordinary chance for those of us in Massachusetts to meet UCC sisters and brothers from all over the country and get a glimpse of the richness and vitality of our denomination.” South Hadley is less than an hour away from Hartford.
According to the national UCC website, the planners of the 50th Anniversary Celebration have promised “an exciting celebration filled with events and activities for people of all ages and interests: keynote speakers, experiential gatherings, artistic performances, musical presentations, workshops, historical exhibits, children’s activities, and much more.”

General Synod is the biennial meeting of the United Church of Christ. Delegates from Conferences, Covenanted Ministries, and a broad range of interest groups meet every two years to consider the business of the church and its relationship with the wider world.
