Diane Lavos, who edited the Massachusetts Conference Edition of the United Church News from 1987 to 1994, is returning to the helm of the publication as Acting Editor.
Lavos takes over the editorial duties from Tiffany Vail, the Associate for Communication & Technology, who is scheduled to go on maternity leave in December. Vail has served as editor of the newspaper since 1996, producing 74 issues of the newspaper.
Lavos will serve as Acting Editor for the first five issues of the newspaper in 2004, at which time plans for the position will be re-evaluated.
Lavos had served as Director of Publications at Andover Newton Theological School for nine years and is now the freelance editor of the school’s academic catalog and the pictorial directory of students and staff. As Director of Publications, she produced brochures, flyers, a campus biweekly newsletter and the Annual Report, and also wrote and edited the Today’s Ministry magazine for alumni and friends.
During this time Lavos has stayed connected with the Conference by doing editing and layout work on the Massachusetts Christian Educators’ Newsletter. This summer she designed and began editing the new Pastoral Excellence Program News. She will continue with both these projects.
“The Massachusetts Conference is a vibrant place, and never more so than now with innovations such as the Pastoral Excellence Program. I am pleased to be writing and editing stories again about the Conference – connecting with people I knew and meeting new ones. With so many interesting story ideas, I look forward to a productive time.”
