December 2004

The Red Sox World Series win prompted an unprecedented reaction from churches throughout the state. Here, the First Congregational UCC Church in Marshfield rang their bell 86 times the night the Sox won – one bell for each year since their last World Series title. Rick Taylor with Meredith Taylor at his side, and Elizabeth Drouin and Philip Drouin in the foreground, grab hold of the rope leading to the belfry. Even Minister and President, the Rev. Dr. Nancy S. Taylor (no relation), joined in the excitement with an email pronoucing that “our team's victory reminds us that beauty, mystery and triumph are among the grand delights to which we earthly creatures are sometimes treated. ...It is enough to know that here, at the hub of the universe, all things work together for good for those who Believe.” Until next year.
