The
Massachusetts Conference Board of Directors is once again urging all
congregations to adopt term limits for Annual Meeting delegates, in
the hope of increasing the number of members involved in the wider church.
The
Annual Meeting benefits from the diversity and fresh ideas, said
Moderator Nancy Lawrence. And the local church benefits by having
more members gain in their understanding of the workings of the wider
church, and by having more members energized by being part of what is
possible when we work together.
Those
who have attended Annual Meeting in the past and who want to return
do not have to miss out just because their terms as delegates have ended.
All local church members are welcome to attend the Annual Meeting as
visitors. They can take part in all the activities, but are not permitted
to vote.
Lawrence
said churches should consider getting as many members as possible involved
with not only Annual Meeting and other Conference events, but with Association
activities as well.
We
are all members of the UCC and as such, we should be made aware of what
is happening as gathered bodies of our associations and of the Conference,
Lawrence said.
The
Board also urged churches to make sure Annual Meeting delegates are
given an opportunity to report back to the church about what has gone
on at the Meeting, which this year is being held June 8 and 9 at Mount
Holyoke College in South Hadley.
