Planned
Giving director called
May,
2001
One
of the Massachusetts Conference’s Stewardship Associates has been called
as Director of Planned Giving.
Ed Hoyt, a member of the Newton Highlands Congregational Church, started
at the part-time post in late April. He takes the place of Timothy Scott,
who left the position in December after 3 1/2 years.
Hoyt,
the former director of workshops for the Andover Newton Theological
School’s Ministry of the Laity program, has worked as a teacher at public
schools and colleges. He has also led many programs and retreats on
faith and finances, including some for the ecumenical organization Ministry
with Money.
“Ed will bring his gifts of teaching, his great faith and his passion
for stewardship to the position,” said Meredith Hutchison, Associate
Conference Minister for Stewardship and Financial Development. “He knows
the Conference well and is able to listen to the needs of the churches,
and he will be able to help people make the connection between serving
God and the disposition of their assets.”
Hoyt said he sees educating people about that connection as a ministry.
“This is really about helping people more deeply understand their faith
and helping them to live out that faith in productive ways,” he said.
Hoyt is charged with educating church members about planned giving and
with helping churches develop planned giving programs.
Hoyt said he is looking forward to hearing from clergy and lay leaders
to get an idea of their needs. He will be in the Conference office,
at 508-875-5233, on Mondays, and will work from his home office on other
days.
