Clergy to explore boundary issues at five Nov. colloquies

October, 2002

A series of five clergy colloquies in November will focus on “Wellness and Boundaries for Clergy and Congregations.”

Clergy will be invited to talk in small groups about boundary issues and to review case studies. Specific issues to be discussed include a pastor’s moving out of a parish, friendships and sexual relationships within the parish and sharing personal issues with parishioners.

The Manual on Ministry and United Church of Christ ordination vows will be reviewed as they relate to boundary issues, and participants will worship together.

The events are being organized by the five area ministers, Associate Conference Minister for Leadership Development Susan Dickerman and Conference Minister and President Nancy Taylor.

Dickerman said the group is not bringing in an outside speaker, instead giving clergy an opportunity to network together to work on these issues.
“We wanted to emphasis clergy wellness and our covenant of being in ministry together,” she said.

The colloquies will be held from 9:30 AM to 3 PM as follows:
• Nov. 4, Hancock UCC, Lexington;
• Nov. 12, South Church in Andover, UCC;
• Nov. 13, First Congregational UCC, Auburn;
• Nov. 18, First Congregational UCC, Hanover;
• Nov. 25, First Congregational Church of Hadley.
