Andover
Newton Theological School is offering a new health ministries program
which seeks to educate students, clergy, nurses and lay church leaders
about health ministries within congregations.
The new certificate program in Congregational Health Ministry and Parish
Nursing focuses on the relationship between spirituality and health
through four courses of academic preparation and six hours of supervision
or assistance with developing a health ministry. A health ministry is
a program based within a congregation that promotes health and healing
as part of the mission and ministry of the faith community.

Walker
Center open house to honor founder
The
Walker Center in Newton will feature the life of founder Eliza Walker,
a Congregational missionary, at its annual international fair and open
house on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Walker served as a missionary in Turkey for 13 years with her husband.
She and her two young children returned home upon his death in 1866.
Following her return, Walker was commissioned by the American Board
of Missions to assist in the state-side care of the children of missionaries,
and she founded the Walker Missionary Home.
Today, the Walker Center houses international theological students and
offers faith-based programs on cross-cultural understanding and conflict
resolution.
The fair will include live cultural music and dance, international foods
and crafts, a Heifer Project petting zoo and tours of the center and
its resources.
