The
Massachusetts Conference is offering a new, two-year program for church
educators that want to develop new skills or who are just starting out.
Learning
to Teach is for teachers, superintendents or Christian education
directors and will focus on: the Bible; encouraging children to be in
mission; experiencing worship with children; talking with parents; developing
new tools for teaching; managing classroom behavior; and planning classroom
time that is creative and interesting throughout the church year.
Each year will include four sessions, held on Wednesdays from 4 to 9
PM at the Framingham Conference Center. This year’s sessions will be:
Oct. 3, 2001; Jan. 30, 2002; March 6, 2002; and May 8, 2002.
Susan
Dickerman, Associate Conference Minister for Leadership Development,
said the program is designed to take the place of training sessions
that the Conference has led for educators at individual churches in
the past.
“Instead
of doing one 90-minute workshop, we want the time and opportunity to
work with people to help them develop their faith and to create a community
of support,” Dickerman said.
The cost for Learning to Teach is $200 per year, with payment
schedules available. Included with the fee is free admission to three
other educator training events: Colossal West on Sept. 29, Colossal
VIII on Oct. 21 and Seasons of the Spirit on March 9.
