About the Task Team

The Israel Palestine Task Team was founded in June 2010. The first gathering took place at lunch during Conference Annual Meeting. The Israel Palestine Task Team falls under the auspices of the Conference’s Justice and Witness Ministries. It also works closely with Global Ministries.

The purpose of this Task Team is to engage members of churches in the Massachusetts Conference in seeking a just peace in Israel Palestine. We hope to accomplish this by:

1. Connection – the Task Team will act as an umbrella of communication and networking for individuals and churches who are already working in various ways to promote a just peace in Israel Palestine.

2. Communication – the Task Team will act as a center for communication among various parts of the UCC.

3. Education and advocacy – the Task Team will work with Justice and Witness Ministries to provide educational opportunities to those seeking to know more about this complex issue by:

  • Compiling a list of resources and individuals qualified to educate on this topic.
  • Encouraging participation in advocacy.
  • Promoting educational pilgrimages to Israel/Palestine in partnership with Global Ministries and alternative travel partner organizations.

Since its inception, the Task Team has

  • Presented workshops at Super Saturdays.
  • Had a presence at Justice and Witness Marketplace tables at Annual Meetings.
  • Evaluated a resolution that challenged previous Synods’ decisions and acted as an educational resource to Synod delegates.
  • Helped found the national UCC Palestine Israel Network.

The Team meets monthly, and its current membership includes Elaine Brouillard, Rev. Branwen Cook, (co-chair), Lorrie Hall, Gay Harter (co-chair), Eliza Ngyugen, Nanette Pitt, Rev. Gary Shahinian, Alina Tomeh, and Linda Ziebell.
