Lent is a forty day period

Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday. We skip Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays are considered Little Easters celebrating the Resurrection. Lent begins on 9 March 2011 and ends on 23 April 2011, which is the day before Easter. It is the season we travel into the wilderness with Jesus.  

Remembering The Rev. Dr. Peter Gomes

Our colleague, friend, teacher and companion in Christ, the Reverend Dr. Peter Gomes, died on February 28, 2011.  An American Baptist minister, Rev. Gomes shaped the lives and enlivened the faith of countless students, ministers and disciples across denominational lines through his prolific and provocative writing, teaching and preaching.
