Church Organist/Pianist - Methuen

First Church Congregational of Methuen, MA is seeking a part time organist/pianist who will report directly to the Director of Music. This position will be working approximately 3 to 4 hours per week from September through August. The selected candidate must be able to play both organ and piano. The church has a pipe organ and a grand piano.
There is one weekly Sunday service at 10:0 0AM with 3 additional seasonal worship services which include… Ash Wednesday, Maunday Thursday and Christmas Eve. This position will accompany all choirs for rehearsals and singing in church as needed. Currently our Adult Chancel Choir rehearses on Sunday Mornings from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, with time allowed to be ready to start worship prior to 10:00 AM. We require a weekly prelude and postlude along with playing for all hymns, anthems and choral responses. We also require music played during our Communion Service which is normally the first Sunday of every month. We also have a children’s/youth choir that is currently undergoing a rebuilding process. To play for any special programs and/or music events.
Qualified candidates will have excellent performance skills playing both the organ and grand piano with the ability to play classical, Christian and contemporary music. Sight reading and transposing skills are beneficial.
The organ at First Church Congregational is an 1886 James E.Treat (opus 1) pipe organ built for the E. Searle’s Great Barrington, MA residence which was relocated to Methuen in 1924.
It is the organist/pianist responsibility to supply substitutes when not able to play. Remuneration for weddings/funerals to be paid based on First Church’s schedule of fees.
