Director of Christian Education - Hanover


The First Congregational Church of Hanover is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, organized and faith based person to run our Sunday School and special events. This position is part-time with flexible hours that vary by week based on special events requirements and is supported by the Christian Education Committee.  Successful candidates will be highly organized, have experience working with children, have an understanding of technology, be hard working and a self starter, have strong communication skills and a desire to help us grow our program.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
General Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Part time position with variable hours per week based on scheduled events but consistently include Sundays
  • Plan, coordinate, organize, support, lead and grow the pre-school through senior high education programs
  • Be the primary contact and director for the pre-school through 8th grade Sunday school program
  • Organize and coordinate annual registration
  • Keep attendance records and maintain database
  • Prepare curriculum and materials to be ready for each teacher on Sundays including but not limited to ordering, organizing and distributing materials and lesson plans
  • Identify teachers and substitutes
  • Facilitate teacher meetings as needed
  • Prepare church school calendar
  • Organize, coordinate and staff special events: including but not limited to Christmas Pageant, Teacher Appreciation Day, Children’s Day, Palm Sunday, Bible Sunday, First Communion, Vacation Bible School etc.
    • Includes planning, materials and curriculum
    • Identify volunteers
    • Research and present curriculum choices for Sunday School to the Christian Education Committee
  • Coordinate a youth choir for inclusion in the Minister of Music’s holidays and special events
  • Assist with Fellowship meetings
  • Communicate all Christian Education activities via multiple church resources including by not limited to the monthly newsletter, emails, phone calls, social media etc.
  • Attend monthly Christian Education Committee meetings, Cabinet meeting, staff meetings
  • Review annual budget with Christian Education Committee to discuss needs and requirements
  • Review past year’s successes and failures with Christian Education Committee for use in developing the next year’s overall plan and objectives and curriculum
  • Work with Senior Pastor and Christian Education Committee to identify ways to encourage attendance and promote the Youth Christian Education program throughout surrounding communities
  • Attend initial training and continuing education classes with approval and direction of the Christian Education Committee
