Sabbatical Supply Pastor - Boxborough, MA

9/6/2018

From December 30, 2018 - April 21, 2019

UCC Boxborough is preparing for an exciting time of sabbatical for our pastor, Rev. Cindy Worthington-Berry. During this period, our congregation will be working on our sabbatical theme of “Building the Beloved Community”.  We are seeking a Sabbatical Pastor to serve twenty hours per week as pastor and head-of-staff, and to support and encourage lay ministry as members step forward to share their gifts in leadership and spirit with the congregation.

Responsibilities:
Lead Sunday worship and preach: approx.10-12 Sundays total
            Support ministry teams: 4-5 meetings/month
Provide pastoral care, supported by lay ministry
            Administrative support
Supervise staff (admin, custodian, church musician, choir director, nursery)
Other: Worship in Action worship service for January
Lent experiential program for adults/families (TBD together)

Compensation:
            $35 - $40.00/hour depending on experience.
Sabbatical pastor is responsible for social security, withholding, etc.
Up to $300 for expenses associated with pastoral care, worship, etc.
Other funds available for pastoral and program expenses

Schedule:
            Approximately 20 hours per week
Start: Sunday December 30 2018 (joint service with both pastors)
End: Holy Week (April 14-21) (joint service Easter Sunday)

Focus: Our congregation would like to work in parallel with our sabbatical pastor on the theme of “Building the Beloved Community”.  We are open to creative opportunities to explore this theme through sermons, hands-on experiences, field trips, discussions, social justice action, faith formation activities, etc. to be planned together before the sabbatical begins.

Opportunities:  We are an energetic congregation undergoing a renovation of our historic building, which will continue through the sabbatical time period.  We are excited about this renovation and our successful Open Doors capital campaign. We see this combination of renovation and sabbatical as a time for open-minded creativity and seek the support and guidance of a Sabbatical Pastor to help us navigate through this period.  This is a time to open our own doors to new ideas and ways of thinking, to stretch ourselves to reach out in different ways.   We are looking for someone to help us expand our own comfort zones while “holding down the fort” during a building renovation.

To apply:  Please send a UCC profile and cover letter explaining your interest in this position to uccbsabbatical@gmail.com by Sept. 15.  Many thanks!
