The church secretary oversees the operation of the church office and assists the pastors and staff with a variety of administrative duties. As a church secretary, your responsibilities include answering phone calls, managing schedules, filing, and generating programs for services. You also record personal data regarding new members of the congregation, visitors, and a variety of other issues affecting the church. Basic bookkeeping is a good skill to have, but not required. Your job is to ensure that the church is running efficiently, accurately, and with discretion for people’s personal information. Hours are 8-12 Monday - Friday. Special projects may require additional hours some weeks.
Supporting the vision, mission, ministry, and core values of the church as they relate to the position.
Assist the church with its efforts to switch to Google Suite. This will include creating Google Drive folders, uploading documents, and working with various committees during implementation. Proficiency with Google and G-Suite is required for this position.
Ability to acquire new technology skills as they evolve.
Ability to teach others on use of technology as needed.
Ensure timely, efficient, and cost effective delivery of all administrative services.
Develop and maintain a productive and supportive working relationship with coworkers and volunteers.
Maintain the church calendar and database.
Scheduling use of the church facilities.
Edit, produce, and distribute publications and communications.
Maintain files of church records and documents
Provide direct administrative support to the Pastor and the heads of various department and committee.
3+ years prior relevant experience is required.
CORI review that reveals no information that would make the applicant ineligible for duties as church staff.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in Google G-Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (we will primarily be on Google).
Computer skills are required including basic printer scanner maintenance, desktop maintenance, database management skills, capable of solving common computer problems, must be very comfortable around computers.
Excellent telephone skills
Ability to maintain professionalism in all aspects of work.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to all matters pertaining to the church and its congregants.
Commitment to work alone and as a team to accomplish goals and objectives.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with desktop publishing.
Ability to develop and post on various social networks as the church.
Assist church visitors with any questions.
