Save the Date for the Northeast Spring Meeting:
May 11th at 8:30 a.m.: “Disaster Preparedness 101”
A look at what churches can do before a disaster hits including understanding the spiritual and psychological effects of disaster trauma.
Churches can do a lot of mitigation work to prepare the congregation should a disaster happen.
We will focus on specific issues that various church leaders can initiate that will lessen the trauma impact and increase the likelihood of resiliency. In addition we will spend some time talking about how disasters can change our world view as well as our understanding of the spiritual journey. We will include some practical resources for self care after a disaster happens.

Presenters' Bios:
Rev. Fred Meade is a full time UCC Pastor serving in Beverly. He has been on many deployments around the country as a disaster chaplain for the Red Cross as well as locally in MA. He teaches spiritual care for the Red Cross and is the Senior Instructor for the National Disaster Interfaiths Network. In addition he is also a member of the MA Corps Fire Chaplains Association. Fred has served on the MACUCC Disaster Resource and Resource Team for the past six years and is currently Co-chairing that committee.
Rev. Estelle Margarones is the Interim Senior Pastor at First Parish in York, Maine. She previously served churches in Lynnfield, Scituate, and Weymouth. Estelle is a former Massachusetts Conference Disaster Coordinator and co-chair of the MACUCC Disaster Resource & Response Team. She is a Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care Volunteer.
