We Should Talk: A Primer on the Circle Process
presented by Sam Lovett and the Restorative Justice Task Team
One of the greatest pitfalls in congregational life is not talking about critical issues in the church or leaving those conversations to be discussed by a few in the parking lot. Rather than focus on substance, grievances become destructive and progress becomes stalled.
The Transitional Ministry Task Team invites Interim Pastors to a day away to learn about the Circle Process, which will equip participants with tools to “unstick” a congregation that may be afraid to have difficult conversations or unable to do so because they don’t have the capacity to manage conflict. The heart of the Circle Process is creating safe space for all “stakeholders” to speak and be heard and to create agreements on how best to move forward toward reconciliation and restoration of relationship.
Participants are encouraged to bring a small “talking piece” which symbolizes values that are important to the community in which they are serving.
