Church World Service has nearly run out of cleanup kits because of the demand this past year and month. When a flood of water filled with mud, disease and chemicals invades your home you can get lost in despair and the sheer overwhelm of it. A clean up kit is a simple tangible way to share your compassion and give a survivor a concrete way to clean up the chaos. It’s a gift of love.
We’re challenging every church to provide at least five complete kits.
Everyone says they haven’t seen flooding like this in their lifetimes. Some have said this was a once in a 1,000-year storm to hit Texas. Other officials have said it is the worst flooding storm to ever hit this continent. And no one would have predicted or believed that two Category 4 Hurricanes would have made landfall in the US in the same year. But along came Irma with winds, rain and storm surge. I think we will be hearing this more regularly. For years we have been hearing about shifts in our climate. And, the 2017 Hurricane season is absolutely consistent with the observation and prediction that these shifts will result in storms of greater intensity and frequency. We need to help. We need to be prepared.
TIME FRAME:
Because of the devastation that continues as more hurricanes slam into land we are extending the cleanup bucket collection. We will be receiving Cleanup buckets at our temporary church depots through Monday, October 23 during the hours each church has posted below.
PLEASE call the contact number for the church to let them know you are coming and how many kits you are bringing.
There are no people on site at these churches to help you unload your buckets, so please bring a crew with you.
KIT INSTRUCTIONS:
There are very specific instructions regarding items that need to be included in completed kits and how to package those kits:
There is a $3 processing fee for every kit you create. PLEASE mail this fee directly to Church World Service to cover the cost of getting kits from their warehouses to the people in need. [Cover processing fees online OR send them separately with your name/congregation, complete address, phone number and email address to: CWS, PO Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515 ]
