Donations, prayers, sought in response to storms

Tornado damageIn response to the severe storms that have swept across various part of the country, Minister and President Jim Antal yesterday sent out the following letter to churches:

As you are aware, the recent tornado outbreak has caused severe damage in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama and Georgia, and caused at least 39 deaths.  Our prayers are with those who have lost loved ones, homes and even whole communities.
Donations to aid those affected by these storms may be made through the United Church of Christ.  Access the website here.
So far our denomination, in partnership with your support, is actively working with local churches as well as local and national, state and non-profit relief agencies to get the most appropriate help to the people who need it urgently.  As this story continues to unfold, you can read updates on our UCC website.
We are aware that troubling news of this sort might impact those of you who were affected by tornadoes and other storms here in Massachusetts.  Images and news of the disaster can stir up thoughts and emotions that have just begun to heal.  We continue to hold you in our hearts.
Join with us in offering our support and prayers to all those who are living in these disaster impacted regions.
Jim Antal ,
Minister and President
Massachusetts Conference, United Church of Christ
