The Rev. Dr. Ronald John Sloan died at the age of 81 on June 3, 2017 in his South Wellfleet home with his wife Sue Anne Jackson Sloan and companion dog ‘Pippin’ at his side. He is survived by his wife Sue; son John Harrison Sloan III and wife Janice Marie Powers of Indianapolis, IN; son Scott Jackson Sloan and wife Clayton Price Maxwell of Austin, TX; and son Andrew MacKinnon Sloan of Miami, FL; and grandchildren John Harrison Sloan IV, Claire Hannah Sloan, Mark Thomas Sloan, Carlisle Maxwell Sloan and Harry Maxwell Sloan.
Ron graduated from Syracuse University and earned a Master in both Divinity and Theology and a Doctor in Ministry from the Princeton Theological Seminary. Ron had most recently served as pastor at First Parish Truro, United Church of Christ, in Truro, MA, after serving in Presbyterian churches in New City, NY, Huntington, NY, Dayton, NJ, Ontario Center, NY and Hyattsville, MD.
The family is most grateful for the support of friends, as well as the many special caregivers, VNA and VNA Hospice.
A memorial service was held on July 22, 2017 at First Parish Truro http://www.firstparishtruro.org/ with a reception to follow. All were welcome to attend to celebrate Ron’s life.
