Strengthen the Church (STC) is one of four special offerings of the United Church of Christ that help reimagine and build the future of the UCC, shared by National UCC and Conferences where the offering is received. In the National setting, STC largely supports youth ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the country where the UCC voice has not been heard.
All Strengthen the Church contributions that remain in the Massachusetts Conference will exclusively support the Conference’s ministries with children and youth. Our Conference Board of Directors has established that, for 2019, 50% of the first $15,000 received and 90% of contributions beyond this amount will remain in the Conference for these ministries. This is in keeping with Our Together, As One partners in Connecticut and Rhode Island, who have made a similar determination, and a reaffirmed commitment to a core area of mission that is faithful to Jesus’ call and essential to our future.
The STC offering will be used to enhance such Conference ministries as training adult leaders through our CE Certification and Education for Effective Youth Ministry (EEYM) programs, Super Saturday presentations, and church cluster meetings; responding to and resourcing churches in their faith formation ministries; and guiding us all in the challenging work of rethinking what faith formation means in the 21st century. More information about the many ways our Conference is engaged in ministries with children and youth, as well as with the adult leaders who minister among them, is available here.
The Strengthen the Church offering will be received on Pentecost Sunday, June 9th, 2019, an appropriate time to look to our ministries with children and youth as we celebrate the birth of the Church. Donations may be made by check payable to MACUCC, mailed to 1 Badger Road, Framingham, MA 01702; or online here:
The Massachusetts Conference will have materials to help your congregation promote the offering that will be made available in the coming weeks and posted to this web page soon. If you have any questions about this new approach to the offering, please contact Jonathan New, Associate Conference Minister for Stewardship & Financial Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 508-875-5233 ext. 231.
We hope you will join in the Strengthen the Church offering effort as we seek to better serve local congregations that are making disciples of Jesus, and making God’s love and justice real in their communities and beyond!
